Videk adds to its portfolio of Intelligent Mail® solutions

April 9, 2008 – Rochester, NY – Videk, Inc. announced today that the PostnetVerifier (PNV), an in-line, Postal barcode quality monitoring device, has been enhanced to include Intelligent Mail® Barcode (IMB) capability. Driven by USPS® implementation, it can now assess the quality of both the Postnet™ and Intelligent Mail® Barcodes.

This smart camera device evaluates Postnet™ and Intelligent Mail® Barcodes as they are printed. Monitoring bar height, bar width, bar spacing, clear zone, check digit and decodeability, the PNV alerts the operator when print quality falls below Postal standards. Using line-scan technology for optimal scanning accuracy, the PNV assesses and decodes Postal barcodes traveling at speeds up to 80 inches/second (400 ft./min.).

The Intelligent Mail® Barcode is a unique, multi-service barcode that combines the capabilities of the Postnet™ and Planet® barcodes using four-state technology. This barcode format contains more information for a given footprint, freeing up valuable real estate in the address block area. A requirement for USPS® automation discounts beginning in May 2009, the new code promises improved readability and tracking capabilities.

“As the USPS® implements the transition to the IMB, it becomes increasingly important to monitor the print quality of these codes,” says Dick Schieck, Videk’s Product Manager. Verifying the print quality and readability of the IMB minimizes costly Postal rejections. “In this very competitive environment, it is important to retain your customer base, and this new capability will ensure that mailers will not have to absorb additional Postal costs.”

This PNV upgrade is the latest addition to Videk’s line of Intelligent Mail® solutions. Already IMB compatible, VisionSensor™ 2030 is a hand-held 1D, 2D, and Postal barcode reader which includes a keypad, graphic display and battery handle to enable cordless operation. Videk’s InserterVision™ and DocuVision™ modular solutions offer IMB capability for high-speed inserters, addressing, and other mailing equipment.
